How to Do a Tap Flap

In tap dancing, a "Tap Flap" is a basic forward-moving step involving two main actions: a brush and a step, both performed with the same foot. Start with your weight on your back foot and lift your leading foot slightly off the ground. Swing this foot forward to execute the brush, striking the ball of your tap shoe against the floor. Immediately follow with a step forward onto that same foot, shifting your weight onto it. The goal is to produce two distinct sounds: one for the brush and another for the step. Practice slowly at first to get the technique down, then speed up as you become more comfortable.
