Pom size refers to the length of the strands, not the overall ball. 4-inch poms are lighter and easier to control — the standard pick for dance teams, drill teams and younger cheerleaders. 6-inch poms build a noticeably fuller silhouette with more flash, the classic choice for varsity sidelines and stand-out visuals. When in doubt for a mixed-age program, 4-inch is the safe call.
